Purpose of the Feature
The Rental Periods section in the Admin Dashboard is designed to manage and define time frames associated with rental items. This feature allows administrators to create, edit, and organize rental periods to suit business needs, such as daily, weekly, or custom durations. By standardizing rental periods, businesses can ensure consistent pricing, scheduling, and inventory management.
What It Is Used For
Defining Rental Durations: Create predefined periods (e.g., hourly, daily, weekly, monthly) to simplify order management.
Customizing Rental Offerings: Offer flexible rental durations to meet customer needs.
Streamlining Pricing Models: Standardize pricing structures based on rental periods for better clarity and efficiency.
Improving Inventory Management: Align inventory availability with defined rental periods to avoid overlaps or scheduling conflicts.
Simplifying Customer Communication: Ensure customers understand the rental terms by providing clear period definitions.
How to Use the "Rental Periods" Feature
Step 1: Navigate to Rental Periods
Log in to the Admin Dashboard.
Navigate to Rentals > Rental Periods in the main menu.
The Rental Periods page displays a list of all existing rental periods.
Step 2: Add a New Rental Period
Click the Add New Period button at the top-right corner.
Fill out the following fields:
Title: Provide a descriptive name (e.g., "Daily Rental" or "Weekend Special").
SKU: Each rental period requires a unique SKU.
Period Type: Specify the base time period for your new rental period. For example:
Hour: If your time period should be measured in Hours.
Day: If your time period should be measured in Days.
Month: If your rental period should be measured in Months.
Period Value: Enter the value of the time period for your new rental.
Examples:
If you select Period Type "Hour" and you enter "7" as the Period Value, then your new Rental Period will have a value of "7 Hours."
If you select Period Type "Day" and you enter "15" as the Period Value, then your new Rental Period will have a value of "15 Days."
Start Day: You can specify a specific starting day of the week. Your new rental period will ONLY be available for rentals starting on this day.
Start Time: You can specify a specific starting time for the Rental Period.
Status: Select Active if you want your Rental Period to be available for your rental items, or Disable to hide it.
Is Recurring: If this rental period will be used as an auto-recurring rental period for your products. Typically No.
Click Save Item to add the new rental period or Save & Continue to save your current updates and continue editing.
Step 3: Edit an Existing Rental Period
Note: You can only edit rental periods that you have added.
You can use the "Added By" column to find existing rental periods that you have added.
Locate the rental period you want to modify in the list.
Click anywhere on the row to edit the selected period.
Make necessary changes to the name, duration, or status.
Click Save to apply updates.
Step 4: Delete a Rental Period
Note: You can only delete rental periods that you have added.
You can use the "Added By" column to find existing rental periods that you have added.
Locate the rental period you want to remove.
Click the Delete button next to it.
Confirm the deletion when prompted. Deleted periods will no longer be available for selection in new or existing rental orders.
Tips for Effective Use
Standardize Period Names: Use clear and consistent names for easy identification.
Test New Periods: Before enabling a new rental period, ensure it aligns with your pricing and inventory management.
Monitor Usage: Regularly review rental periods to ensure they meet customer and business needs.
Deactivate Unused Periods: Disable rental periods no longer in use to keep the list organized.
By leveraging the Rental Periods feature, businesses can offer flexible rental options, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the customer experience.
